p003[1].jpg Shaoxing County Lies between 29奔15' and 30奔11'E, and between 120奔02' and 120奔15' N. With a subtropical monsoon climate the area has plenty of rainfall and sunshine . The Shanghai-Ningbo Railway , the Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway , National Highway 104 and the Grand Canal IS EASTERN Zhejiang Province pass through the county . The county seat is 60 kilometers from Jianqiao Airport in Hangzhou and 20 kilometers from the Hangzhou International Airport which is under construction .The picturesque Guiji Mountains rise in the southern part of the county . The flat Land in the middle is criss-crossed with numerous rivers and dotted with many lakes . In the northern part three major rivers meet to nourish the rice paddy fields.

Public transport reaches almost all the villages in the countryside . Atransport netwouk radiatees from the China Light and Textile Industry City in Keqiao . The East China Power Grid supplies 2.25 billion kwh of electricity to the county , sufficient for the use of daily life and industry . The installed capacity of telephones is 100,000 lines , Now every 100 people in Shaoxing own more than 10 telephones . The daily water supply to the urban areas is 200,000 tons .

The county pays great attention to the protection of environment . It won the title of " National Advanced County for Afforestation " from the central government and the title of " The 500 Best of Global Environmental Program . The constant improvement of infrastructure has created favorable conditions for a faster , healthier and sustained economic development .

A Genral Survey of Economy

Shaoxing is a large textile county in China . In old days it once boasted to " spin 10,000 chang of silk a day " . At present there are 2.500 key textile enterprises including 510 Sino- foreign joint ventures , 100 enterprise groups and 130 state - owned large and medium-sized enterprises. Jointly they have 20 billion yuan in fixed assets.

More than 800 textile mills have bought 18,000 sets of world advanced shuttleless spinning machines to update the county's textile industry to the level of developed countries and make it one of the most advanced textile regions in China . These mills have developed 1,200 varieties of the provincial level . The products are sold well not only inside China but on the international market as well.

On the basis the textile industry , Shaoxing hax optimized the industries of wine making , building materials , electric machinery , chemicals , electronics and foodstuffs . Export-oriented enterprises grow fast , and a number of enterprises have been established in foreign countries .

Favorable natural conditions have made Shaoxing a major grain producer of Zhejiang Province . Farming in the county is much mechanized . The total output and unit-yield have kept increasing steadily . There are more than 30,000 hectares of cultivated fields that can produce 15 tons of grain per hectare a year . Along with grain production , edible oil crops . fishery and animal husbandry have developed too . A number of sizable aquatic breeding bases have been built .
